Maseru, Jan. 01 – The Head of State, King Letsie III says the public should be thankful to God, continue to ask for His mercy as he has preserved the lives of many throughout 2024 to-date.
“We give glory to God who walked with Basotho since formation of this nation by the late Morena Moshoeshoe I 200 years ago hence 2024 has been an important year”. The King said this in the 2025 New Year’s speech.
He called the nation collectively to continue the walk as the next two hundred years commences today, adding the nation has reflected on achievements and challenges, thus the need for all to start making a positive contribution, solve conflicts amicably rather than bringing other nations to mediate is vital.
To this point, the Head of State also talked about the increasing rate of murder that has seen the most vulnerable, that is children and the aged being affected indicating the nation wishes to see justice being served in this regard.
“As Christian community, we all are aware that where there is conflict, a peaceful solution is found through effective communication, let us go back to this route as we have learnt from our forefathers”. He added.
In another story, he highlighted climate change as a matter of concern affecting the world including agricultural production locally. Therefore, he appealed to the society to adapt and adopt guidance coming from experts with regard to modern agriculture known as ‘Climate Smart Agriculture’ in order to tackle this.
He said these can be achieved easily through a changed mind-set, use of fertilisers and manure that can adhere to the nature of soil each is using, as this would have potential to stand firm during drought.
As these efforts are being done, he encouraged the nation not to forget that rain comes from God, thus must pray for rain so that ultimately prayers can be answered.
In conclusion, he wished Basotho well as they embark on a New Year, urging all to be energetic and be ready to receive God’s light throughout 2025 and the years beyond.
