MINISTRY OF HEALTH REVIEWS PROCUREMENT PRACTICES FOR GRANTS.

MOHALE’S HOEK, September 24 — Ministry of Health in the Southern Region conducted a workshop to review its procurement practices and financial obligations in Mohale’s Hoek on Wednesday.

The District Medical Officer Dr. Bokang Kojoana noted that the grants are given to the government of Lesotho by World Bank with the hope and believe that they will help the ministry in procurement and financial services within the ministry, emphasizing that the workshop is about southern region supportive supervision on quality grants.

Dr Kojoana further indicated that all staff must keep in mind that the main objective of regulating and improving on procurement service is to strengthen primary healthcare and encourage community engagement and participation and improving multi-sectorial involvement within the ministry.

He said the funds must not be misused by procurement and financial officers as that cripples the performance of the ministry and affects its overall budgeting.

In the same vein the Quality Grants Manager under the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) Mrs ‘Makamohelo Lekoka, highlighted that procurement services must be sped up and fast tracked to prepare for audit process, inventory management and documentation and also to encourage smooth services between the health facilities and the service provider for the benefit of a patient at the end of the day.
