Maseru, Nov. 06 — The Senate has expressed deep concern and condemnation over recent violent attacks against tourists, allegedly carried out by schoolchildren.
The motion, spearheaded by Senator Mawinnie Kanetsi, was discussed during a Senate session where lawmakers unanimously abhorred these isolated incidents, which could negatively affect the country’s tourism industry.
The Senate has called for an immediate investigation into the attacks and urged swift action to address the issue. In a bid to curb similar incidents, the House has also encouraged government, schools, business communities, and other agencies to intensify advocacy efforts.
A special focus is to be placed on educating herd boys, schoolchildren, and local communities about the vital role tourism plays in boosting Lesotho’s economy and creating employment for Basotho citizens.
