TAVERN OWNERS FINED AFTER BREAKING LIQUOR LAW IN QACHA’S NEK

Qacha’s Nek, Nov. 15 — Ntsane Moahloli, 27, from Ha Sekake, Thotaneng, and Potso Mohale, 32, from Whitehill, were each sentenced two years in jail or a fine of M2,000 by Senior Magistrate Ts’eliso Bale at the Qacha’s Nek Magistrate Court. Both men opted to pay the fine.

The pair were found guilty of violating Regulation 20(1)(a) and 20(4) of the Liquor Licensing Regulations No. 5 of 1999 after selling alcohol beyond the legally permitted hours.

On November 8, 2024, during a routine police patrol, officers discovered that Dontonze Tavern was still operating at 12:30 a.m., despite the tavern’s license stipulating that alcohol sales must cease by 10:00 p.m. The police confiscated Moahloli’s license after he failed to provide a valid explanation for the violation. Testimonies from the officers and a customer, Ts’ele Ts’ele, confirmed the offense.
