Qacha’s Nek, June.28 — Today marks the end of a week-long Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) training for urban Village Disaster Management Team (VDMT) held by the District Disaster Management Team (DDMT) with the support of Lesotho Red Cross.
Amidst the discussions were VDMT responsibilities, disaster preparedness and response, prevention and mitigation, community hazard map and seasonal calendar, just to mention a few.
The Disaster Management Act of 1997 and Disaster Management Manual are the legal documents supporting the establishment of VDMT with the functions of public awareness creation on DRR actions, encouragement of communities to work together and form societies to improve their livelihoods, build community capacities in DRR issues, assist in the provision of humanitarian assistance and assist the communities in preparedness planning amongst others. . .
