Maseru, Mar. 04 — A case in which Qamo Matela who is charged with the murder of his wife Mahlompho Matela, born Rethabile Mofolo, has been scheduled to continue on April 29 to May 03, 2024.
The dates were selected after the defence commenced its evidence and led its first witness Dr. Matsa Mosese from Pelenomi Hospital in South Africa. The witness is one of the doctors who treated the deceased before she died. The defence is expected to lead evidence from another doctor, still from South Africa as the accused will not testify.
The prosecution has led six state witnesses comprising police officers, a pathologist, a nurse together with the deceased’s sister and the accused’s friend.
The court has in this matter already held a trial within trial in which it was trying to establish the admissibility of an admission made by the accused at the Mabote Police Station in relation to the death of his wife. The trial within trial came after the defence argued that the admission was not made freely and voluntarily because the accused was under duress when he made it.
