Maseru, Jan. 06 — The community of Marabeng, with the support from the Area Chief and Councillor has taken a decisive step towards rehabilitation of inroads in a bid to restore physical function and accessibility.
The initiative follows an establishment of a committee at the area whose objective is to ensure implementation of community-based development projects as well as security and safety of residents.
Speaking in an interview with the Agency, the Committee Public Relations Officer Mr. Bokang Makhetha said inaccessibility of inroads remains a challenge at the area thus they found it befitting to unite as residents to combat this challenge and ensure implementation of other community-based projects.
He indicated that they approached the Area Chief and community council to assist in providing machinery and a site where they could mine quarry, however due to financial constraints, some residents ended up providing their own machinery which included two trucks, a Tractor Loader Backhoe (TLB) and excavator to mine and transport quarry.
“Residents agreed to make contributions to buy fuel for machinery and the Chief provided a site at Mats’eng village for mining of quarry” he said.
He indicated that they will be able to rehabilitate a 2.2 kilometres road with the mined quarry which will also benefit the Foso community, calling on the government, through different stakeholders, to provide a helping hand.
“We did our part and fulfilled the saying, blessed is the soul that makes an effort ” he said, adding that through the same committee, they intend to ensure installation of Apollo lights and sewage lines at Marabeng amongst others.
Chief Seeiso Leshoboro Majara of Marabeng expressed pride over the initiative, saying rehabilitated inroads contribute towards socio-economic development amongst others, commending residents for uniting in ensuring implementation of community based development projects.
The Community Councilor Mr. Liteboho Ts’enoli also applauded Marabeng community, saying as much as the Council is entrusted to guide and facilitate local developments, financial constraints remain a challenge due to limited budget.
Efforts to talk to Mokhethoaneng Member of Parliament to find out how the community would further be assisted were unsuccessful.
The Agency has learnt that residents are due to find and pay machinery that would be used to reconstruct the inroads.
