MATELILE COMMANDER CONDEMNS KILLING OF A WOMAN

Mafeteng, April 13 — The Officer Commanding Matelile Police Inspector Moseli Matlosa has condemned killing of a 30-year-old woman of Matelile, Methinyeng which he said has destroyed their outstanding clean record of no crime during Easter Holidays following campaigns and raids held in the area with the intention to fight criminal cases in the area of Matelile.

Inspector Matlosa said it is a criminal offence for anyone to kill anyone over a suspicion, adding that no one is entitled to punish anyone expect local Courts of Law.

He stressed that the suspect remains innocent until the proceeding of any case before court, saying the suspect will be guilty following judgement by the relevant authorities.

Inspector Matlosa explained that both the suspects aged between 29 and 32 years of Matelile Methineyeng and Ha Sehlabo intentionally, unlawfully and wrongfully attacked the deceased through stabbing her various wounds all over the body with the knife following their suspicion that the deceased had a relationship with one of the suspect’s husband hence the decision.

He said the preliminary investigations shows that on Good Friday the suspects went to one of the local taverns in Methinyeng where they found the deceased drinking beer with other people who were there and called her outside and confronted her about her relationship she has with one of the suspect’s husband, saying even before she could answer one question she was stabbed with the knife then continue to stab her until she lied down.

Inspector Matlosa further indicated that members of the community who witnessed the occurrence of the fight intervened by taking the deceased who was severely bleeding to Scott Hospital in Morija where she died on the same day while the suspects surrendered themselves to Matelile Police the following day which was Saturday where they confessed the killing of the deceased.

He further stated that the suspects will appear before the Mafeteng Magistrate Court this week charged with murder, calling to members of the community in the area to stop taking law into their hands but look for better solution if there is any misunderstanding between two parties as fighting that normally resulted into killing of each other is not a solution and advised them to consult with relatives or local authority until they will reach Public Relation Office located at every Police Post for peaceful intervention.

Matelile was popularly known for murder in the past but currently following campaigns raids conducted on daily basis in the area by the Lesotho Mounted Police Service officials based in the area crime has decreased as it is in rear cases where any kind of offences occurred.
