Berea, March 09 — The ongoing construction of Teyateyaneng Bus Terminal is said to be making a good progress as major works of erecting super structures at the project site are currently reported to have achieved over 90 percent.Teyateyaneng Urban Council Town Clerk Mr. Molelekoa Mafitoe conformed the development during an interview with the Agency on Monday, where he highlighted that all general work are highly anticipated to be complete by end of March.
Mr. Mafitoe highlighted that the new bus terminal which is currently being erected at old the old part of Lioli F.C. ground, comprise of six buildings, out of that number two of them have their super structures at 100 percent complete, while four have so far reached over 98 percent.On fitting of the roof structure, he indicated that building two of the project is currently seating at 70 percent near completion, while building six is at 99 percent.
He further said among the major works taking place includes the furnishing and fittings whereby only two buildings are ranging between 85 and 98 percent.
Town Clerk added that both the taxi shelter bases and stub columns are 100 percent and generally that marks a significant progress and among the things left behind installation of electricity, and compacting the ground.Additionally, he said although most of the construction equipment are procured in China, but the good part is that they arrive already engineered for the project design and just waiting for installation, hence a good process at the project side.
Despite the progress made, Mr. Mafitoe said further said heavy rains disrupted the construction works and the prolonged negotiations between the Urban Council and Lioli F.C. management which kept on stalling during the initial stage of the project are among the few things which nearly caused the delay to the project.
He said upon completion, the new bust terminal is going to have essential offices like police post, space to accommodate large markets, space for street vendors, water and sanitation facilities for hygiene and space for fast food markets.
The Teyateyaneng bus terminal project is undertaken by the Chinese owned company named CHUYE Construction and the project started in 2024 and by then it was initially allocated one year, but it later got an extension of time with a revised completion period scheduled for end of March this year.Meanwhile, during the 2026/27 fiscal year budget presentation theme, “Accelerating Economic Transformation; Building Resilience” by the Minister of Finance and Development Planning Dr. Rets’elisitsoe Matlanyane, an allocation totaling M1.2 billion was made for Roads and Buildings with the aim to strengthen national connectivity and upgrading of critical infrastructure.
Dr. Matlanyane further highlighted that the allocations will also support completion of bus terminals, community council offices, police stations, aviation infrastructure upgrades at Moshoeshoe I International Airport, waste management facilities, fire services infrastructure, maintainance of government buildings and housing, implementation of community-based climate based resilience projects under the local climate adaptive living facilities.
