Mokhotlong, Feb. 11 — Members of the District Disaster Management Team (DDMT) participated in a two-day meeting on Disaster Management and Climate Action in Mokhotlong from Tuesday this week.
Organised by the District Disaster Management Office, the meeting that was facilitated by World Vision Lesotho was aimed at reviewing planned activities, discuss implementation modalities and ensure effective coordination with full support from district partners.
In her presentation, the Humanitarian and Emergency Affairs Manager, Mrs. Pulane Mokhethi from World Vision Lesotho said World Vision has developed its organisational five year strategy through the Integrated Programme Framework (IPF) whose implementation began this year.
“The IPF introduced several changes from the previous approach including the integration of disaster management and climate actions,” she said.
Mrs. Mokhethi further said that given Mokhotlong’s high vulnerability to hazards such as heavy snowfall, strong winds and drought, the district has proposed for targeted interventions under this merged focus areas to strengthen preparedness and response at community and district levels.
She explained that interventions will be implemented in Menoaneng and Senqu areas because it is where World Vision Lesotho is currently operating.
She appreciated the participation of the team on the review of the multi hazard plan saying their inputs will help towards the development of the Anticipatory Actions Protocol for effective implementation in Mokhotlong.
“Planned activities will also explore suitable Anticipatory Actions that can be activated before disasters occur while identifying opportunities to further integrate climate actions and disaster management for greater impacts,” she added.
World Vision is a global Christian organization dedicated to working with children, families and their communities to reduce their vulnerability.
