Maseru, May 30 — Lesotho College of Education (LCE) and Vodacom Lesotho Foundation (VLF) signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on ICT teachers training project at LCE on Thursday.
In his speech after the signing, VLF Executive Head, Mr. Ts’epo Ntaopane mentioned the need for collaborations if the country is to attain technological developments, hence today’s sponsored project by VLF meant to capacitate teachers with ICT skills in today’s world of digital transformation.
“Without us as Vodacom along with other partners investing in the digital education system, we can not achieve better results hence this project,” he said, adding nothing is painful than a student seeing a computer for the first time when they are in tertiary, as such, the intention is to bridge that gap.
He mentioned that amongst others, the project will ensure strengthening of teachers skills in as far as ICT is concerned so as to put them at par with global trends in the world of technology.
The Agency has established the project is also expected to upgrade two LCE laboratories by equipping them with 76 computers and increase access points in the library with at least six computers for student research.
Moreover, 20 more computers for use by lecturers will be provided while 2000 per service teachers will be capacitated annually over five years as well as 500 in service teachers to be reached per year over the five years through continuous development initiatives.
Similarly, LCE Rector, Dr. Moeketsi Letele said the advent of Covid-19 has brought various challenges with LCE having suffered in recent years, requiring alignment in the ICT space.
Therefore, LCE introduced a new 2022/2027 new strategic plan meant to reshape the institution, adding today’s milestone event is a step ahead towards building even more on strategic and corporations development.
He thanked VLF for having found it imperative to harness the potential of digital technology by providing state of the art computer labs at LCE as well as offering training to be offered by VLF and partners that include Computer Business Solutions (CBS).
The signing event saw the presence of government officials who will later launch the project officially. The LCE choir entertained the crowd with choral music.
LCE is one of the tertiary institutions in the country aimed at enhancing government programmes and policies in line with enhancing education so as to attain SDG’s.
