LESOTHO PARLIAMENT TO HOLD SADCOPAC 

Maseru, Oct. 12 –The Parliament of Lesotho will stage the Southern African Development Community of Public Accounts Committees (SADCOPAC) conference and Annual General Meeting at Manthabiseng Convention Centre from October 27 to 31.

Speaking in an interview with the Agency, the Public Accounts Committee Chairperson Mrs. Machabana Lemphane Letsie said the conference, which will be officiated by the Speaker of the National Assembly Mr. Tlohang Sekhamane is intended to create a platform for SADCOPAC member states to share experiences, expertism, challenges, achievements as well as how to improve the work of Public Accounts Committees in the region.

She indicated that amongst other issues that will be discussed during the conference include, the role of Parliament in protecting public resources as well as the perspectives in financial management, accountability, and auditing.

Meanwhile the National Assembly closed for independence holidays longer than usual to afford an opportunity to facilitate the successful hosting of this conference.

SADCOPAC was launched in October 2003 in South Africa it aims to amongst others, build capacity and expertise among member states to carry out their oversight functions and duties diligently and efficiently, improve the effectiveness of PACs or similar committees in the SADC region as well as to work with the governments and their relevant role players in meeting the people’s expectations of sound and accountable governance.

Its member states include amongst others, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Eswatini, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
