LESOTHO REPRESENTED AT THE  2026 WORLD GOVERNMENTS SUMMIT IN DUBAI

Maseru – Lesotho is represented at the 2026 World Governments Summit currently underway in Dubai, according to information from the office of the Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation (MICSTI).

The country is represented by the Prime Minister, Mr. Ntsokoane Matekane, accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Lejone Mpotjoane, the Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ms. Nthati Moorosi, as well as other government officials.

The summit seeks to frame shared visions and strategies aimed at enhancing governance and strengthening international cooperation through in-depth discussions and panel sessions designed to identify effective solutions to global challenges.

On the first day of the summit, Minister Moorosi delivered Lesotho’s position during the Ministerial Roundtable on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Bridging the Digital Divide. In her address, she stated that for the Mountain Kingdom, the issue is no longer whether AI will change society, but rather how the government can ensure that AI serves the nation equitably, from the highlands of Qacha’s Nek to the streets of Maseru.

She emphasised that digital infrastructure is not a luxury but a critical bridge to the global economy. The Minister further noted that the government approved the National Artificial Intelligence Policy in the second half of last year, marking an important step towards the responsible adoption of AI in Lesotho.

According to Minister Moorosi, the policy is intended to promote the ethical development, deployment and use of AI to improve quality of life, while establishing a strong governance framework to guide implementation across all sectors.

Meanwhile, the summit sessions are reported to be designed to assess the current global and regional landscape and develop insights and approaches that empower governments to ensure prosperity and progress in a rapidly changing world.

The Agency has learnt that the summit has brought together thousands of decision-makers, including Heads of State and Government. Prime Minister Matekane is expected to deliver a speech on Wednesday. The summit has also featured prominent global thought leaders and experts.

Information published online by the Dubai Government indicates that Mr. Mohammad Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of the World Governments Summit Organisation, highlighted that this year’s edition has recorded the highest-ever participation of global leaders, demonstrating the summit’s growing significance as a leading platform for shaping the future and fostering preparedness and proactive governance in line with Dubai’s leadership vision.
