Mohale’s Hoek, August.11 — The court of the Magistrate has on Thursday postponed the case of a 38-year-old woman from Upper Thamae in Maseru Ms. ‘Mapapali Seitlheko to October. 09, for further hearing an application for discharge.
Ms. Seitlheko who is reported to have been employed by the Ministry of Finance in Pensions Unit in 2018, is accused of allegedly stealing old age Pensions money amounting to M54,700.00, and is charged with contravening Section 59 (b) and (c), read with section 109 of the Penal Code Act 2010.
The above section notes that any public officer who, by reason of the duties of his office, is accountable for public funds or property, shall appropriate the same, or shall take or misappropriate or shall consent, or through abandonment or negligence, shall permit any other person to take such public funds or property, wholly or partially, or shall otherwise be guilty of the misappropriation or malversation of such funds or property.
The case was before Resident Magistrate Tau, alongside Adv. Baasi from the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Offences, DCEO, as Crown Counsel, while the accused was represented by Adv. Akhosi.
