Botha-Bothe, Oct. 16 — The Chief of Senyenyane has raised concern over the community’s lack of a nearby health facility, saying villagers are forced to travel long distances to access basic medical services.
In an interview with the Lesotho News Agency (LENA), Chief Mamphoko Mmina said the nearest clinic, Rampai Health Centre, would be much closer if there was a bridge across the Maliba-Matšo River.
“Many people do not go to the clinic when they are sick because it is too far. Even caregivers often fail to take their children for postnatal care, especially when it rains, since walking becomes difficult,” she said.
Chief Mmina added that no vehicle can reach the clinic, leaving residents with the only options of walking or riding horses.
“The alternative clinic is Lejone Health Centre, but reaching it by taxi is expensive — a return trip costs about M130. Hiring a private car costs around M1,000 to transport a patient,” she explained. . . .
