NUL TO ADDRESS STRIKE

Maseru, Oct.11 — As a strategy to address the critical issues that led to the strike of the National University of Lesotho (NUL) students, the Senate has decided to fast track the process of students’ registration and submission of supplementary results to the National Manpower Development Secretariat (NMDS) by Wednesday to assess progress.

Among the eight grievances by the students, they demanded that academic registration be in effect and done with immediate effect as there is evidence of students not being registered to this day together with all first-year students not being registered. Also, that all supplementary results be sent to NMDS with immediate effect so that students are able to contract to the secretariat in both main campus and IEMS campus.

Statement from the Senate indicates that this is because these two issues have direct impact on the payment of students’ stipends. It adds that the other six issues were considered to be administrative which could have been easily attended to at faculty and department levels.
